Born in New York and bred in the studio, CJ Nye describes her world as a hybrid of experience and rationality. Her work is poignant and purposeful, with every mark made for a reason.
To find the lexicon of her work, she encourages the viewer to “look through the filter of modern painting to the decorative arts: the fluidity of Art Nouveau, the sleekness of Deco, the geometry of the Wiener Werkstatte, the deliberate imperfection of Islamic art, and the graphic tempo of Japanese woodblock prints and screens. Ply that stylistic breadth with the liberty of materiality granted by the Abstract Expressionists.” She is currently showing at The Crest Hardware Art Show in Brooklyn, New York until August 18th.
